Turn Your Stressful Observations Into Possible Affirmations
We all get stressed and it’s easy to get a little bit of negativity. While you may not always be able to say “everything will be okay,” adding “maybe” to some of these statements can reduce stress.
In World of Psychology, they share advice from Allison Carmen, author of The Gift of the Possible . When you think about your stressful situation, acknowledge the possibility that it might not go the way you expected. Carmen suggests challenging your point of view with the following statements:
- Maybe my ideas about the situation are wrong;
- Maybe what is happening is good;
- Maybe what is happening will get better;
- Maybe I will find a way to accept everything that I am going through, and everything will be all right;
- Maybe in time I will know what to do next;
- Maybe everything is fine.
The language we use changes our way of thinking, and relying on positive affirmations is not for everyone. If you acknowledge that you are responding to opportunity and not absolute certainty, you will be open to potential positive outcomes. We are so consumed with an immediate response that we don’t realize we have a choice of how to approach a problem.
