UBlock, a Memory-Friendly Ad Blocker, Is Now Available for Firefox

Firefox: The last time we highlighted uBlock, a fast and lightweight alternative to AdBlock Plus , it was only Chrome. This add-on is now available for Firefox as well, and it works well, although it is still in beta testing.

There’s no getting around the fact that despite the usefulness of AdBlock Plus, it’s probably one of the most resource-intensive add-ons you can install . In Chrome, this is a dramatic improvement in memory usage, and you get the same boot protection. Its new Firefox extension works pretty much the same, and while it’s in beta, you get the same level of protection as the Chrome extension and AdBlock Plus as it uses the same lists (namely EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Malware Domains and etc. – or you can add and configure your own sources for blocking.)

However, there are a few known issues – the badge counter showing how many ads you’ve blocked counts twice, so it might report blocking more ads than it has (even though it blocks everything on the page with the default), and the badge button might look a little weird depending on your version of Firefox. However, we tested it and it works well, which is the important part, and it relies on memory. Click on the link below to find out more and grab it for yourself.
