Plex for Android Update Simplifies Licensing, Adds Photo Streaming
Android: Plex is one of the best streaming personal media services with one of the most confusing buying patterns out there. Today, the company is simplifying it to one simple app in the Play Store.
Now it works like this: There is one free Plex app on the Google Play store. To unlock the streaming feature, you need to make a one-time $ 5 in-app purchase. Users who previously paid $ 5 for the app will already be unlocked (and essentially the same version listed in the Play Store). PlexPass users can also unlock this feature by logging in. A standalone free app that used to be exclusively for PlexPass users is now deprecated.
Of course, it’s not just about rearranging licenses. You can now also use Plex to showcase your phone’s photos using a Chromecast or similar casting device. The app has also been updated with some of these quirky Android 5.0 UI elements.
