Be My Eyes Connects Volunteers With Blind People Who Need Help

iOS: As you can imagine, even the simplest solutions without visual cues can be extremely difficult. Be My Eyes connects the sighted and the visually impaired through live video to, as the name suggests, be their eyes and help them read objects or navigate their environment.

With Be My Eyes, visually impaired users can send requests to sighted volunteers and connect those volunteers to their phone cameras. Sighted people can then describe what they see, answer questions, and help blind people interpret visual cues. You can see how this process works in the video above. Visually impaired users can more easily distinguish between shortcuts, navigate unfamiliar areas safely while you walk, and receive image descriptions (among many other benefits). It can also be useful if people break their glasses and have no spare. You can see how this process works in the video above.

Volunteers can earn points and progress to the next level by helping the blind, allowing them to help more people. Even though it’s only available for iOS at the moment, you can subscribe to be notified when Be My Eyes launches for Android .
