Create Custom Picture Frames With a Table Saw

Putting a picture in a pretty frame can really brighten up your home (or be a good gift). If you really want a personal touch, you can create your own with a table saw.

For a simple decorative touch, it’s hard to beat the half-overlap seams when creating picture frames or cabinet bezels . Mortise and tenon joints are stronger and pocket screw joints take less time to assemble, but with a table saw and dado blade you can create enough picture frames for every family member.

To make a lap joint, you will need a wide blade to cut enough wood from each piece to make the joint as thick as the frame. Use glue to overlap the joint parts. You can secure this connection with a pair of pegs or screws that attach through the connection pieces.
