Three “wishes” of Parents Must Be Explained to Each Nanny
Finding a good and reliable nanny is hard enough. It is very important to make sure everyone understands each other. Parents need to communicate their needs in three different ways.
The Stir interviewed Tammy Gold, author of Secrets of the Whispering Babysitter: A Practical Guide to Finding and Achieving the Gold Standard in Caring for Your Child. Gold has three things every parent needs to say to a nanny:
- What do you want for your kids, such as specific bedtime or deadlines.
- What do you want from babysitting, such as packing lunch or dressing the kids for sleep.
- What you want for yourself as a parent, for example, you need a nanny to cook dinner as you are running late.
Parents and sitters have different expectations. To avoid problems, be clear about your expectations. Don’t assume the nanny knows what you want.
