Escape a Car Chase With a K-Turn Bootlegger
Next time the cops are chasing you, think back to the Bootlegger K-turn so you can get away without crashing into another car.
Blogger Brooke Allen provides this illustration and explanation:
One of the best ways to keep a distance between you and the police is to turn back after turning on a narrow road where the cops miss a turn and are forced to retreat or walk far away to another. In a normal K-turn, you enter the driveway on the opposite side of the street (A), back off (B), and then hopefully wave to the cops as you drive past while they are still trying to cock their weapons.
But the problem with a regular K-Turn is that cops tend to bump into you at point B. There is less chance of a crack.
It also works to get away from non-cop cars chasing you, but as a practical matter, it’s also a smarter way to make a K-turn (aka 3-point turn) if you don’t want to be hit from behind.
The K-turn was not the main topic of Allen’s blog post; it’s really about the courage to stand up for what’s right. You can read the bootlegger’s story at the link below.
