Upgrade Your Toolbox for Creative Lift During a Recession
Pictures are made not by brushes, but by people. For this reason, we blame ourselves if we cannot come up with worthy ideas. However, if you’re facing a creative downturn, it might be worth taking a look at your toolbox to see if your choices are holding back.
As the Good People Project points out, when you are trying to revive your creativity – especially after you have been away for a while, although it can help at any time – you can often find that your creative ideas are limited to what you can do. … production. Good ideas stay on the table if you can’t create them. If you are having production problems, take a moment to find out what tools you have and if you need anything else:
Pens and pencils? Laptops? Canvas, paints and brushes? Scissors? A pack of stickers? Camera? A stick of glue and a tube of glitter? Remove dust from any tools you have. Buy new ones if you’ve given up on your creative life and thrown them away. But keep it simple. As a writer, I only need a pen (preferably a black Artline 0.4 felt-tip pen) and a notebook (any cheap thing will do). I don’t need fancy pens or paper; they won’t make me write better. I do not use to write applications on my computer. Determine what you want and then boil it down to what you really need.
Of course, don’t expect a new pen to write this novel for you. But if you want to get back to drawing, a pencil and notebook won’t help you. It is sometimes obvious which tools you need, but if you constantly find yourself not doing your own thing because it is impractical, the tools may be exactly the muse you need.
